Why Can't You Smoke E-cigarettes?

E-cigarettes are not harmless; they can damage the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and even cause addiction.

E-cigarette vendors often promote them as "healthy alternatives to cigarettes," but a 2023 report by the World Health Organization clearly states that 78 countries/regions worldwide have implemented sales restrictions on e-cigarettes. The main reasons are:

The dangers of nicotine are easily overlooked. Most e-cigarette cartridges contain nicotine salts; one cartridge contains approximately the same amount of nicotine as three packs of cigarettes. After three months of use, up to 37% of teenagers experience coughing and chest tightness, far exceeding the initial effects of regular cigarettes.

Hidden harm mechanisms. Fruit-flavored e-liquids produce diacetyl (a major cause of "popcorn lung") at high temperatures, and propylene glycol produces formaldehyde when heated. These substances damage the alveolar structure faster than traditional cigarettes, yet are not easily detected by routine chest X-rays.

New addiction patterns. The convenient usage leads to a significantly higher daily usage frequency than traditional cigarettes; one brand's users triggered the device an average of 243 times per day. Frequent intake continuously raises the dopamine secretion threshold, leading to both physiological and psychological dependence.
